Eligibility Requirements
Applicants for certificates programs must have at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited college or professional school.
The applicant must be fluent in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing in order to be deemed qualified to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Applicants for whom English is a second language must demonstrate their English proficiency by:
- completion of a bachelor’s degree in English-speaking university or
- completion of an approved intensive English language program, with approval from the S-TESL Director or
- TOEFL score of 92; iBT (237 computer-based score, 580 paper-based score) or higher. Some allowance for lower scores may be given, with approval from the S-TESL Director. or
- completing the S-TESL Reading/Writing proficiency test, with approval from the S-TESL Director.
Applicants who do not have a BA, may request a waiver from the Director. See BA Waiver for further information. All applicants must meet all Admission Requirements from the School of Teaching ESL.

How to Register
- Check the registration dates for the MSU Billings program starting May 10, 2012.
- Call the School of Teaching ESL (206-781-8607) to declare intent, confirm space, and confirm that you meet specific class and format requirements.
- Download and complete the appropriate registration form (link below). Forms are dated specifically for the MSU Billings program.
- Fax or mail your completed form with payment. Forms may be delivered in person by appointment.
The optimal time to register for a class is one month prior to the class start date. Deadline for registration for all classes is one week prior to the class start date.
With the exception of the Four Week Intensive, all classes must be paid in full at the time of registration. Space may be reserved in a Four Week Intensive class with a $100 deposit, the balance of tuition is due two weeks before the class begins. Tuition must be paid in full for registrations submitted after this two week deadline.
