photo of Universidad de AlcalaSpain: Center for Transatlantic Studies

Transatlantic Studies Center is located in Spain at the historical center of Alcalá de Henares, built in the first half of the 17th century as a convent and University College for the Trinitarios Descalzos religious order. Today it is completely renovated and surrounded by gardens and patios conserving its original medieval charm.

Universidad de Alcalá is more than 500 years old.  Founded in 1499 by Cardinal Cisneros, thanks to its five centuries of history it ranks as one of the oldest universities in Europe. Due to the beauty and wealth of its buildings, it was the first university in the world to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on December 2nd, 1998. The city of Alcalá de Henares, in which the university lies, is well-known as the birthplace of Cervantes, author of the masterpiece Don Quixote. It combines the best of a medieval and modern town. Additionally, the town is located just 30 km from the center of Madrid.
