International Admissions

Graduate Admissions Required Material

The documents needed to begin your application process as a graduate student are:

  1. Complete International Student Application and Graduate Application

    A completed and signed International Student Application is needed from all undergraduate applicants.

  1. Application fee

    Application fee of $40 is required to be paid online if applying online or sent by money order, check or wire transfer (cash is not encouraged) if completing paper application. Please note that the application fee is non-refundable. Applications will not be considered without the application fee.
  2. Financial Statement and Institution Bank Letter

    All future international students must attest that funds are available for full-time study at Montana State University Billings. The U.S. government requires international students to show proof of funds to at least cover the first year of study. Please complete the financial statement form and have it signed by a parent or sponsor. An official letter from a banking institution showing the amount of funds available for the first year must accompany this form. The official letter from the bank must be in English.

  3. English proficiency proof or IELP graduation proof

    If English is not your native language, proof of one of the following is necessary to document English Language Proficiency. MSUB TOEFL institution code is 4298.

Exchange students need a letter from their home institution verifying the student has met an acceptable level of English proficiency to be successful at university-level English.

  1. Conditional Admission

    Applicants who do not have the required English language proficiency test score for full admission to MSU Billings but are academically qualified, may be considered for conditional/provisional admission through required attendance in the Intensive English Language Program.

  2. Official transcripts or records of previous school work

    Applicants must submit official college level academic records and/or certificates posting date of completion. Official records (bearing the school seal and signature) should be sent directly from the school to the University and must include an English translation. Certified true copies of original records may be acceptable upon review. All records of academic work completed outside of the U.S. or in non-English-speaking countries must be submitted for a course by course evaluation to one of the three following services:

*The documents should be in both original language and English translations. Photocopies are not acceptable. For your credits to count, they must come from an accredited institution. Please ask your school registrar to include a note with your transcripts noting whether your institution(s) is accredited.

  1. Specific requirements based on intended major

    There are specific requirements for each major. Please find out these requirements by going to Graduate Studies website and click on each major. Possible requirements include:

    1. Official GRE Score
    2. Three Letters of Reference
    3. A letter if Interest
    4. A Resume
