Financial Aid and Scholarships

Application Procedures

  • Complete the "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA). The priority filing date is March 1. Awards made on FAFSAs submitted after March 1 will be subject to available funds. Filing the FAFSA electronically at is the preferred method. The electronic FAFSA is faster and apt to be more accurate since handwritten answers are not always legible.
  • First time students must apply for admission to the University. Students who are returning after being out of school for a semester should be re-admitted.
  • If you wish to apply for scholarships complete a "General Scholarship Application" by the February 1 deadline. This form can be located online.
  • Read and respond to all correspondence from the Financial Aid Office. Approximately 30% of students are selected for a verification/audit process that requires them to send additional documents. An award cannot be made until these documents are received and reviewed.
  • After your financial aid file is complete and reviewed you will receive an Award Letter which will list the aid you are eligible to receive.
  • Respond to your award offer within 30 days to avoid cancellation.
  • If this is your first time accepting a Stafford loan, or if you have changed lenders or guarantors, you will need to sign a master promissory note online before the loan(s) will be guaranteed.
  • Each year you accept a loan you are required to complete on-line loan counseling.
  • Most grants, waivers, scholarships, and loans are applied to your University student account with the Business Office at fee payment time after you have accepted your charges. Funds that exceed your charges will be mailed directly to you.
