This year we will have a
Security Mini-Conference
Thursday, March 10, 2005

Last Minute News...

We had to adjust the schedule a little due to a speaker cancellation which has pushed our start time back to just before 9AM.  Registration is now 8:00 - 9:30 AM.

As speakers provide their PowerPoint slides, I will post them on the schedule page.  See you Thursday.  ~Allen Kent

From February...

Wow!  What an excellent group of speakers we have for your this year.  I doubt Montana has seen this many CISSPs in one group ever.

Due to time constraints and conflicts, the planning committee has decided to have a one day Mini-Conference this year.  The price has been reduced accordingly.

Next year we are already planning on a full two or maybe three days of speakers.  We are also kicking the idea around about some hands-on workshops.  I would love to hear your ideas.  But for now, lets enjoy the great speakers that have volunteered to share their knowledge with us.  See you on March 10th.  ~Allen Kent

From last fall...

I have recently re-read the comments submitted after last spring’s conference and what excellent feedback it was.  Last year’s theme was awareness and external threats.  The information about the conference is still available (Past Conferences).  Some key planners from last year have already met and proposed a theme for this year’s conference, internal threats and disaster recovery.  One of the biggest network problems businesses face is the misuse of company computer assets, email, and Internet surfing.  How do we combat this?  Some of the speaker topics will be:

  • Dealing with Phishing (not fishing)
  • Writing policies to protect the business and set guidelines for usage (civilian attorney, law suite case study – firing, email abuse, sexual harassment, porn, etc.)
  • Terrorism threats on US network infrastructure and the impacts of such
  • Forensic tools demonstration
  • Risk analysis – What is the value of your data?  (defense in depth, backup procedures)
  • Disaster recovery and preparedness
  • Privacy – Protecting customer data, establishing reasonable expectations of privacy in the workplace.
