In order to view the drawing examples, you must use the
Whip
program.
The Whip it software is available, free of charge from Autodesk.
Being a student in the Drafting & Design Department at the College of Technology is challenging and exciting. You will acquire the skills and knowledge to succeed as a Drafting Technician, Assistant Drafter, or CAD Technician.
DRAFTING & DESIGN TECHNOLOGY --Students will learn to interpret basic architectural, civil, and engineering data and written or verbal instructions and graphically produce detailed working drawings for architectural, engineering, civil, and manufacturing purposes. Computers-assisted drafting & design is emphasized. (4 semesters)
ASSISTANT DRAFTER--Either civil or architectural technical drawing skills are covered and CAD is introduced. (2 semesters)
CAD TECHNICIAN--This program is for drafters who already possess manual drafting skills and wish to upgrade in the area of CAD. Students without previous experience are encouraged to study in the Drafting Technology program. (3semesters)
Students must demonstrate basic math competency before entering the Drafting & Design program. The Department will accept applicable transfer credits from regionally accredited institutions. An evaluation of transfer credits will be made by a faculty advisor. For more information please call the Admissions Office.
Some supplies are needed in the drafting & design programs. A list is available from the Admissions and Records Office. Most students find a computer at home to be very helpful. While not required, a Pentium is recommended. Students may purchase the AutoCAD program in our bookstore at a reasonable price.
Upon completion of the program, Drafting & Design Technology students earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree, CAD Technicians and Assistant Drafters receive a certificate of completion.
1. Final High School Transcript/GED Scores
2. Proof of two MMR immunizations are required for all applicants born after December 31, 1956.
3. Official copies of college transcripts.
Applicants may be placed on a waiting list before enrolling in Drafting & Design program courses. The waiting is normally one semester.
CAREER INFORMATION
Drafting & Design graduates may find career opportunities with engineering and architectural firms, construction companies, manufacturing industries, and landscape artists.
