EDCI 316 - TEACHING MUSIC K-12 FALL 07
Provides the student with methods and materials necessary for
teaching music in a K-12 setting. Specifically, the areas to be
covered are: elementary general music, elementary instrumental music,
middle school instruction and choral music, and high school
instrumental and choral music. All students complete 40 hours of
music secondary junior field experience in an instructional setting.
EDCI 385 - JUNIOR FIELD EXPERIENCE
Supervised practical experience in an elementary
classroom including structured observation focusing on cultural and
developmental characteristics of children; working with teachers on
individual diagnosis of students needs and prescription of students activates
and assisting small groups of students in accomplishing learning
tasks.
EDCI 441 - MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION
Acquaints students with the history, philosophy,
goals, teaching strategies, curricula, and practices of multicultural education
in order to prepare teacher for dealing with and affirming the
diversity of America's increasingly pluralistic classrooms. Deals with
racial, cultural, and other forms of diversity in the United States
and Montana

Provides a basic background for multicultural and
bilingual teaching. Includes foundations and emphasis on the
development of bilingual education, the development of minority group
children, sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic issues, and the variety
of program responses to addressing the needs of minority group
children. Also includes a theory-into-practice component that explores
curricular approaches to the specific subject areas.

This is an introductory course on second
language acquisition (SLA). Topics will include the process of
acquiring a second or additional language; individual differences in
language acquisition; the role of input, and similarities and differences
in L1 (first language) and L2 (second language) acquisition. The
course format will include readings, discussions, and student
presentations. It will examine speaking in a second language from several
perspectives: theory, pedagogy and materials.

Provides an in-depth
look at methods and techniques for integrating the arts (creative
drama, visual art, creative movement, and music) across the elementary
curriculum. Participants will learn to design arts-based activities
that enhance the basic curriculum, encourage communication, and
develop critical thinking skills and creativity. They will learn
techniques and methods for providing meaningful arts experiences and
understand the value of the arts as a bridge across student
differences.
