Dr. Judith A. McLaughlin

Education:

George Mason University: BA, Psychology, 1976

Clark University: MA, Developmental Psychology, 1978; PhD, Developmental Psychology, 1981

Classes regularly taught: General/Introductory Psychology, Research Analysis in Psychology, Psychology of Gender Differences, Developmental Psychology, Adult Psychology, Statistics for Psychology, Cognitive Development

Teaching Philosophy: I believe that conceptual understanding and critical thinking are infinitely more important than blindly memorizing facts. A student who memorizes a million facts without understanding actually knows nothing. Thus, any techniques that I have used in the classroom are ultimately designed to help students understand relevant concepts.

Scholarly/Research Interests: I am currently finishing writing a textbook on introductory statistics for students in psychology. I am also currently studying the academic and popular literature on gender differences, with the ultimate goal of demonstrating that much of what is written on gender issues, rather than being objective and unbiased, is in fact propaganda designed to influence social and political debates.

Personal Information: I enjoy any or all of the following: children of all ages, needlework (sewing, knitting, etc.), music (especially folk, bluegrass, classical guitar), hiking and camping, ice skating, and reading murder mysteries.
