NCAA Coaches Certification Test Information
All head coaches and assistant coaches are required by either their contract conditions, MSU Billings Athletics Department procedures, or The Great Northwest Athletic Conference to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test each year. The NCAA requires that the test be passed by all coaches prior to engaging in any off-campus recruiting contacts or activities; however, all MSU Billings Yellowjacket coaches are required to pass the test regardless of their recruiting plans. The test is administered annually. The current test is for the 2012-2013 season; coaches who pass the exam will be certified through July 2013.
The MSU Billings test proctor is Dr. Scott Harris, our NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative. The next test date will be announced...probably in early June 2012.
Test Details:
The test in given on line. Coaches have 1 hour and 20 minutes to answer 40 questions. The actual tests consist of true, false and multiple-choice questions related to legislation contained in NCAA Divisions I and II Bylaws 12 (amateurism), 13 (recruiting), 14.02 (eligibility definitions and applications), 14.3 (freshman academic requirements), 14.4 (continuing eligibility), 14.5 (transfer regulations), 15.02 (financial aid definitions and applications) and 15.3 (terms and conditions of awarding institutional financial aid). The Division II tests also include questions related to Bylaws 10 (ethical conduct), 16 (awards and benefits), 17.02 (definitions and applications) and 17.1 (general playing-season regulations). The passing score is 80% or higher (i.e., at least 32 of the 40 questions must be answered correctly). Anyone who does not pass the test must wait 30 days before retaking the test.
The 2012-13 NCAA Division II Manual will be not be available until the summer; therefore, individuals taking the test prior to that date should use the 2011-12 Division II Manual. In addition to the manual, individuals may use the following materials: 2012 NCAA Convention Division II Official Notice, the 2012 NCAA Legislative Summary and LSDBi (bylaws only). The use of any other resource materials during the test is prohibited.

PRACTICE TEST INFORMATION:
Coaches are strongly encouraged to take the on-line practice tests. The practice tests allow you to choose your sport from a pull-down menu; however in the actual tests you must choose "All Sports." If you choose a different option in the test, your results will not be counted. Therefore, it is suggested that you concentrate on the "All Sports" practice exams. It is our understanding that taking the practice tests more than once gives access to different sets of questions, though some questions may be repeated.
