ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Montana State Billings volleyball team fought their way to a 3-1 win over the University of Alaska Anchorage Saturday, 31-29, 30-17, 27-30, and 30-25.  The Yellowjackets stay atop the standings in the GNAC with an 11-3 overall and 5-1 conference record.  The Seawolves fall to 4-7 and remain winless in league play at 0-5.

The Jackets’ three big hitters Jennifer Boe (Casper, Wyo.), Devon Crotteau (Casper, Wyo.), and Alicia Cazemier (Vauxhall, Alberta) combined for 53 of the Yellowjackets' 70 kills in the match.

In a dogfight wire to wire in game one, the Lady Jackets used kills by Boe and Cazemier to close out the game 31-29.  Neither team broke the .200 mark in the game recording a combined 18 hitting errors.

Cruising in game two, MSUB opened with seven unanswered points and used a blistering .432 attack percentage to take the 2-0 advantage into intermission.

Caught on their heels in the third game, the Seawolves dominated the Yellowjackets holding them to an uncharacteristic .102 hitting percentage.

In a battle of wills, the Lady Jackets and Seawolves traded the lead five times and faced nine ties before MSUB was finally able to pull away from Alaska Anchorage in game four.

The Lady Jackets had a .211 hitting percentage for the match along with 12 service aces.  MSUB was led by Crotteau’s 23 kills and 19 digs.  Stefania Aladjova (Bulgaria) handed out a career-high 57 assists and had a game-high four aces.  Boe posted another double-double of 14 kills and 14 digs, while Cazemier had 20 kills for a team-leading .359 attack percentage.

The Seawolves were led by Rhea Cardwell’s 19 kills and 19 digs.  Joanna Johnson and Kim Stolk added 12 and 10 kills respectively.  As a team, the Wolves hit .203 and had 14 blocks.

The Lady Jackets return to Alterowitz Gymnasium to host GNAC favorite Western Washington University (8-4, 4-1) Thursday, September 27.  The conference match is scheduled for 7 p.m.  A live video stream of the match can be seen at www.pennatlantic.com.
