Softball Splits Doubleheader at Mary

     Game One
     Game Two

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Montana State Billings softball team split a twinbill at the University of Mary Wednesday afternoon.  Mary took the opener, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-6 victory.  The Yellowjackets won the nightcap 4-2.

MSUB (13-16) opened a 6-0 lead through four innings.  The Jackets scored a run in the first and the third, then exploded for four runs in the fourth on four hits.  Jessica Frank blasted a three run home run to highlight the inning.

Mary (15-19) came back in the bottom of the fifth scoring five runs on just two hits to make the score 6-5.

The Jackets had a chance to get insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to do so.  In the sixth, Stephanie Gosselin to third as she was hit by a pitch, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch.  A groundout to third ended the threat.  The Yellowjackets had two, two out singles in the seventh, but popped out to second to end that threat as well.

The Marauders scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of two errors to win the game 7-6.

Lindsey Trenery (1-3) took the loss in relief for the Jackets as both runs in the seventh inning were unearned.  Rebekah Tsatsa went 4 2/3 innings allowing five earned runs, four hits, four walks and four strikeouts.

Offensively, the Jackets had nine hits and outhit Mary 9-5.  Frank led the way going 2 for 3 with three RBI and three runs scored.  MSUB committed three costly errors in the game.

The Yellowjackets opened the nightcap scoring two runs in the second on RBI singles by Kelly Parsons and Frank.  Parsons and Terina Stacks hit solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to build a 4-0 lead.

Mary scored two runs in the sixth courtesy of two errors by the Jackets, however, MSUB hurler Lisa Moore got out of the jam with a groundout to preserve the 4-2 victory.  She went the distance, allowing four hits, two runs, none earned and three strikeouts.

As in the opener, MSUB outhit the Marauders, this time 10-4.  Parsons led four Jackets with two hits going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

MSUB heads to Great Falls for a doubleheader with the Argos on Saturday at 1 p.m.
