MSUB’s Stroup Receives Academic Honor (11/1/06)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings women’s soccer player Ally Stroup was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.  Stroup is a senior forward from Ojai, Calif.  This is Stroup’s second-straight selection to the all-district second team.

Stroup is a Psychology major with a 3.62 cumulative grade point average.  She will graduate on time this spring.  Stroup recently led the Yellowjackets to their third-straight winning season (13-6-1) and a second place finish in the Heartland Conference.  During her senior campaign she broke every career scoring record at MSUB.  She finished her career as the school record holder for points (109), goals (40), assists (28), game winning goals (12), games played (74), and games started (74).

Stroup was a first-team all-conference selection last year as a junior.  She is likely to be a first-team selection again this year when the Heartland Conference releases its all-conference team.  Stroup led the league in goals (16) and points (39) and ranked fourth in the conference for assists (7).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America program divides the country into eight districts.  Schools from Montana are part of District VII, which also includes Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.  Nominees for the All-District VII Women’s Soccer Team could come from any Division II, Division III, or NAIA school in any of those states.
