Lady Jackets Fly at FLC Tourney (9/1/06)
Match 1 Box Score
Match 2 Box Score

DURANGO, CO – The Montana State-Billings volleyball team cruised through the first day of the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by Fort Lewis College on Friday.  The Yellowjackets swept both of their matches, defeating Dixie State College and Eastern New Mexico.  MSUB improved to 4-2 on the season.

The Yellowjacket defense dominated both matches.  Against Dixie State, MSUB held the Rebels to just a .086 team attack percentage, winning 30-25, 30-27, 30-24.  Five different Yellowjackets combined for eight and a half blocks, and three Jackets reached double figures for digs.  Alicia Cazemier (Vauxhall, AB) was in on six blocks to lead all players.  She also had a match-high 16 kills on a .367 attack percentage.  Taylor Faught (Billings, MT), Nicole Kruse (Huntley, MT) and Alexis Sandru (Twin Bridges, MT) each posted at least a dozen digs.

Along with Cazemier, Jessica Bratton (Casper, WY) and Ali Watson (Calgary, AB) had double-digit kills.  Bratton knocked down 13 while Watson finished with 11.  Jessica Lechner (Pompeys Pillar, MT) added six kills.  Setter Natalie Bills (Provo, UT) dished out a match-high 38 assists.  The Rebels were led by Breena Bonnett’s nine kills.

The afternoon match against Eastern New Mexico unfolded much like the win over Dixie State with MSUB cruising 30-17, 30-22, 30-18.  The Jackets hit at a .288 clip for the match while holding the Zias to a .033 team hitting percentage.  Watson led all players with 13 kills and 15 digs.  Cazemier added 11 kills and six blocks.  Bratton finished with nine kills to move up to No. 2 in Yellowjacket history for career kills, passing Brandee Sayles.

Watson, Sandru, Bills and Kruse all posted double-digit digs as the Zias struggled to score.  Cazemier, Watson, and Lechner were each in on multiple blocks.  Bills had 34 assists and five kills.  Jessie Macknicki’s eight kills led the Zias.  No other player managed more than five kills.

The Yellowjackets wrap up the tournament with a pair of tough matches on Saturday.  They will face Seattle Pacific at noon.  The Falcons are currently ranked eighteenth in the nation.  MSUB closes the tournament against host Fort Lewis, which defeated the Yellowjackets 3-1 last week.
