Game 2 Box Score

AUSTIN, TX – The Montana State-Billings softball team dropped two games to league-leader St. Edward’s University Sunday in Heartland Conference action.  The Jackets dropped the first game 2-1 and again 7-4 in the late game.  The Lady Jackets fall to 15-20 overall and 6-5 in the conference while St. Edward’s improved to 31-14 and 11-1 to hold onto the top spot in the league standings.

The Hilltoppers started the game off with a two-run first inning.  With two outs, Jennifer Hollas doubled to left center field and advanced to third base on a Yellowjacket passed ball.  Rebecca Ray hit a home run over the center field fence for two RBI and the eventual game-winning hit.

The Yellowjackets responded in the top of the second.  Aysha Maddox (Richland, WA) reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on the throw.  Jenna Haacke’s (Billings, MT) fly-out moved Maddox to third and a Leslie Davis (Federal Way, WA) single scored Maddox.  The Jackets were kept scoreless through the rest of the game to fall 2-1.

Lisa Moore (Bakersfield, CA) took the loss for the Lady Jackets allowing two runs off three hits in one inning.  Lindsey Trenary (Helena, MT) came into the game in the second inning and scattered just two Hilltopper hits in five innings of work.  Lorel Palmer (Ogden, UT), Jenna McCartney (Hamilton, MT) and Davis each had one hit in the game.

Jennifer Bishop picked up her second win in as many days allowing one run off three hits in pitching the complete game.  Bishop struck out four and walked one.  Hollas went 2-for-3 with one run and Ray went 1-for-3 scoring one run and two RBI.

Palmer scored a run in the first inning of the second game with the Lady Jackets knotting the game 2-2 in the second as Davis hit her third home run of the season.  A three-run third inning that was led off by a home run by St. Edward’s but the Toppers back in the drivers seat.

Kept scoreless in the third and fourth innings, the Lady Jackets picked up what would be their final two runs of the game in the fifth.  McCartney led off the inning with a single followed by a single by Terina Stacks (Washougal, WA) to put runners on first and second bases.  Steph Gosselin (Victoria, BC) drilled a double to left center to score McCartney and advance Stacks to third base.  Jessica Frank (Great Falls, MT) hit a single to plate Stacks before the inning ended.

St. Edward’s added one more run in the sixth inning to take the weekend sweep over the Yellowjackets.

Frank went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Davis went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI for the Lady Jackets.  Stacks took the loss allowing six runs off five hits in four innings of work.
