Lady Jackets Sweep Aggies (3/17/07)
Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

GOODWELL, OK-  The Montana State-Billings softball team swept Oklahoma Panhandle State 8-6 and a convincing 10-2 in Heartland Conference action Saturday in Goodwell, Oklahoma.  The Yellowjackets improved to 13-14 overall and 4-1 in the league, while the Lady Aggies dropped to 2-18 and 0-2 in conference play.

The Lady Jackets scored four runs in the third inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead over the Aggies.  Following one run in the fifth by the Jackets, the Aggies brought the game within one with four runs of their own.  Oklahoma Panhandle knotted the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning but two Yellowjacket runs in the seventh and solid pitching by Rebekah Tsatsa (Eagle, Idaho) to close the game allowed the Yellowjackets to hold on for the win.

Tsatsa (5-6) pitched the complete game in picking up the win.  She allowed 12 hits in seven innings of work and struck out two.  Terina Stacks (Washougal, WA) went 1-for-2 scoring three runs and was walked twice.  Stephanie Rinehart (Gig Harbor, WA) hit a double and went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.  Mandy Shaapveld (Puyallup, WA) also hit a double going 2-for-3 scoring one run and one RBI.

“We were a bit sloppy in the first game but we regrouped to get the win,” said Yellowjacket head coach Kim Lemmens.  “We became complacent after we were up 5-0.  The Aggies tied the game in the sixth, but our two runs in the seventh put us ahead.”

The Lady Jackets made short-change of the Aggies in game two scoring one run in the second and sixth innings and eight in the third to win using the eight-run rule.  Oklahoma Panhandle scored one run in the first and second innings before Lady Jacket pitcher Lindsey Trenary (Helena, MT) shut the Aggies down keeping them scoreless through the remainder of the game.

Trenary pitched the complete game scattering six hits and six strikeouts in six innings of work to move to 1-1 on the season.  Stacks went 2-for-4 with one run, one RBI, and a double.  Leslie Davis (Federal Way, WA) went 2-for-3 scoring three runs for the Lady Jackets.  Megan Moeller (Ontario, OR) and Jenna McCartney (Hamilton, MT) each had one run and two RBIs.

“We wanted to get the lead and keep the lead in the second game,” added Lemmens.  “We bounced back well scoring eight runs in the third inning.  We just put it together to get the conference win.”

The Lady Jackets will continue Heartland Conference play against the Aggies with a doubleheader scheduled for Sunday, March 18 before traveling to Canyon, Texas for two games against West Texas A&M Monday, March 19.  First pitch of the doubleheader is 11:00 a.m. CST.
