MSUB Softball Falls in CWI Semis (3/4/07)
Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

RICHLAND, WA – The Montana State-Billings softball team defeated Western Oregon 5-2 Sunday morning before falling to Seattle University 2-1 in the semifinals of the Central Washington Invitational.  The Yellowjackets were 5-3 at the tournament that featured all six teams from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, which MSUB will join next year.  The Jackets improved their overall season record to 9-11.

The Jackets beat Western Oregon for the second time at the tournament and the third time this season.  Rebakah Tsatsa (Eagle, ID) went the distance for her third win of the season, scattering six hits over seven innings.  Lorel Palmer (Ogden, UT) doubled twice, and Terina Stacks (Washougal, WA) had a double.  Palmer, Stacks, Jessica Frank (Great Falls, MT), and Steph Gosselin (Victoria, BC) each drove in runs.

Western Oregon’s Christina Cooke (2-6) gave up nine hits and five runs in six innings for the loss.  Krysta Pennington homered for one of the Wolves’ two runs.  Tyler Sutherland also drove in a run.

In the semifinal, Seattle beat the Jackets for the second-straight time.  The Redhawks used a four-run seventh inning to win 9-2 on Saturday night.  A two-run fifth inning was enough for Seattle to prevail Sunday morning.  Tsatsa (3-5) took the loss after allowing seven hits and two runs in six innings.  Megan Moeller (Ontario, OR) drove in the Yellowjackets’ only run.

Erin Martin (6-2) earned the win for the Redhawks, who went on to defeat Central Washington for the tournament championship.  Katie Petersen and Megan MacIsaac drove in the fifth inning runs.

MSU Billings will host University of Mary (10-5) in the Jackets’ home opener on Wednesday, March 7.  The non-conference doubleheader will start at 10:00 a.m. at Cenex Stadium on the MSU Billings campus.  After Wednesday, the Yellowjackets don’t play at home again until March 31.
