Dixie Rebels Overrun Lady Jackets (2/13/07)

PHOENIX, AZ – Dixie State College took both ends of a doubleheader from the Montana State-Billings softball team on Tuesday in Phoenix, winning 13-2 and 8-6.  The Yellowjackets lost their fourth-straight game to fall to 1-5.  Dixie State, an NCAA Division II provisional member, won for the fourth-straight time to improve to 8-2.  Included in the Rebels’ four-game winning streak are wins against Division I teams Loyola Merrymount and Utah State.

In the first game, the Rebels opened a 5-0 lead by the third innings.  The Yellowjackets answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to draw within 5-2.  Terina Stacks (Washougal, WA) drove in Jenna McCartney (Hamilton, MT) with an RBI double.  Stacks was later plated on a sac fly by Jenna Haacke (Billings, MT).

The Rebels blew the game open with three runs in the fourth and ended it by the eight-run rule with five runs in the fifth.  Stacks pitched all five innings, giving up 11 hits and five walks.  She was 1-for-3 at the plate.  Lorel Palmer (Ogden, UT) went 2-for-3.

In game two, MSU Billings scored three runs in the top of the first and added another in the second for a 4-2 lead.  The Rebels rallied with two runs each in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.  Freshman Lindsey Trenary (Helena, MT) made her first collegiate start, giving up five hits and six runs in five innings.  She was relieved by Rebekah Tsatsa (Eagle, ID), who allowed two runs in an inning of work.

Stephanie Rinehart (Gig Harbor, WA) was 1-for-3 for the Yellowjackets and scored three of their six runs.  Palmer went 3-for-5 with a double to finish the day 5-for-8 Megan Moeller (Sr., Ontario, OR) was 2-for-5 and scored a run.  Stacks was 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Jessica Frank (Great Falls, MT) also went 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Yellowjackets will have Wednesday off before starting the Schutt Sports Division II Leadoff Classic in Phoenix.  They open the tournament on Thursday with games against Minnesota State-Mankato and Angelo State.
