Jackets Down Alumni in Exhibition (11/11/06)

BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings men’s basketball team continued its exhibition season Saturday night with a 112-71 win against an MSUB alumni team.  The game was the second of three exhibition games scheduled. 

The Yellowjackets had seven players in double figures for scoring, led by Jeff Miner’s 17 points.  Miner (Gresham, OR) had three of the Jackets’ 11 3-point field goals.  Russell Steplight (Olympia, WA) and Carl Johnson (Rapid City, SD) each scored 15 points.  Jonathan Wiley (Westlake Village, CA) added 14 points.  Drew Arnold (Tempe, AZ) and Tom D’Amore (Tucson, AZ) had 13 points apiece.  D’Amore also had three 3-pointers. 

The Alumni Team was paced by 34 points from Jerrett Skrifvars.  He was 16-of-19 from the free throw line.  The Alumni converted 22-of-27 free throws in the game.  Joe Trottier netted a dozen points.  Brian Cook added eight points, while Willy Davison and Bo Nelson each finished with six.  Jay Edwards scored five points.

The Jackets lost at Rocky Mountain College on November 6, 99-94.  The Yellowjackets and Bears will meet again in an exhibition on Tuesday, November 14.  Tuesday’s exhibition game against Rocky Mountain tips off at 7:00 p.m. at Alterowitz Gym and will be aired on AM 970 KBUL in Billings.  It will be the final exhibition of the preseason for the Jackets, who open the regular season at a tournament in Nampa, Idaho on December 1 and 2.  MSUB faces No. 12 Central Washington and host Northwest Nazarene at the tourney.
