Wiley Named to Academic Team (2/8/07)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings men’s basketball player Jonathan Wiley has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Wiley is a senior from Westlake Village, Calif.

Wiley has a 3.94 cumulative grade point average in business.  He has posted a 4.00 GPA in five of his seven semesters at MSU Billings.  In the past year, Wiley completed internships with Piper Jaffrey and Global Village for Future Business Leaders.  In the Global Village internship, which included students from around the world, Wiley was one of five selected to participate from the United States.  He has also participated in Japan Business Exchange, Habitat for Humanity, and CAPSIM Business Simulation and is the president of the MSU Billings Investment Club.

This is the second time Wiley has been selected to the CoSIDA All-Academic Team.  He was an All-District VII First Team member last year.  Wiley leads the Yellowjackets in rebounding and is second on the team for scoring.  He averages 13.3 points and 5.9 rebounds a game.  Wiley currently ranks fourth in the Heartland Conference for free throw percentage, seventh for scoring average, seventh for rebounding, eleventh for field goal percentage, thirteenth for assists, and fourth for minutes played per game.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America program divides the country into eight districts.  Schools from Montana are part of District VII, which also includes Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Alberta and Saskatchewan.  Nominees for the All-District VII Men’s Basketball Team could come from any Division II, Division III, or NAIA school in any of those states.  Sports Information Directors from each district nominate and vote for the academic teams.
