Abels, Nordeen Pace Jacket Golfers (4/16/07)

DALLAS, TX – Montana State-Billings golfers Zach Abels and Amy Nordeen are fighting for top 10 finishes after the first day of the Heartland Conference Championships on Monday.  Abels sits in a tie for twelfth place after two rounds in the men’s tournament.  Nordeen is tied for eleventh after the first round of women’s action.  The tournament will conclude on Tuesday at the Hackberry Creek Country Club.

The Yellowjacket men are in sixth place after Monday’s opening rounds on the 7,013-yard, par-72 course.  MSUB is 70-over par with rounds of 318 and 328.  Abels was in ninth place after a first round 76, dropping to twelfth with a second round 78.  He’ll enter Tuesday’s final round at 10-over par.  Michael Konrad posted rounds of 82 and 80 to finish the day in a tie for 29th with an 18-over 162.  Rounding out the Yellowjacket scorers were Tyler Nicholas with a 22-over 166, Jason Kinsey with a 26-over 170, and Mike Watson with a 26-over 170.

The Yellowjacket women are in fifth place on the 5,979-yard, par 72 course.  MSUB shot an 87-over 375 in the opening round.  Nordeen carded a 15-over 87.  Teammate Emily Maag was close behind with an 88, putting her in a tie for 14th.  Three Yellowjackets are bunched at 23rd, 26th, and 27th.  Haley Montalban is tied for 23rd after a 26-over 98.  Karrie Brack shot a 30-over 102, and Jessica Boyer posted a 105.
