Game 2 Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, TX –  The Montana State-Billings baseball team split the twin bill against University of the Incarnate Word Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.  After dropping the first game 6-4, the Yellowjackets came back to notch the team’s first victory of the season winning 5-1 in the second game.  The Yellowjackets are 1-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play.  The two-time defending Heartland Conference champions Incarnate Word are 7-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Jeremy Knowles (Three Forks, MT) took the loss for the Jackets in game one allowing six runs off five hits in 3.1 innings pitched.  Knowles struck out two batters.  Seth Moir (Cody, MT) went 1-for-1 with a run and hit a double.  Doug Longellow (Lewistown, MT) also went 1-for-1 scoring two runs for the Yellowjackets.

MSUB had the 2-0 lead going into the fourth inning until the Cardinals’ scored six runs to take over the lead in the bottom of the fourth.  The Jackets scored a run in the fifth and seventh innings but wasn’t enough following the Cards’ fourth inning scoring barrage.

The Cardinals’ Josh Baker went 1-for-1 scoring a run and driving in three batters.  Blake Mcanalley took the win allowing just one hit and three runs over four innings, while seating four Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets used a steady offense and solid pitching to pick up the win in game two.  The Jackets’ Kyle Pryor (Billings, MT) drilled a triple down the right line and was brought in by Willie Crtalic’s (Billings, MT) fly out to center field.

In the fourth inning, Mike Cease (Deer Lodge, MT) was hit by a pitch to get on base.  Josh Wiley (Belgrade, MT) stepped up to hit a triple driving in Cease for the 2-1 lead.  In the top of the seventh, Longfellow and Crtalic advanced a base on a Cardinal balk to sit at second and third.  Nick Hoskyn (Oelwein, IA) singled up the middle for two RBI and the insurance runs.

Wiley went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Hoskyn went 1-for-1 in the game batting in two runners.  Cease hit a double for the Yellowjackets and Pryor and Wiley each drilled a triple.

Ben Lewerke (Mason City, IA) took the win scattering five hits over six innings.  Lewerke allowed one run and seated three batters.  Cease picked up the save, pitching one inning.

Jerry Anderson took the loss for the Cardinals allowing three runs off four hits.  He struckout four.  Chris Solis went 2-for-2 for the Cards, scoring one run.  Josh Hood was 1-for-2 driving in Incarnate Word’s lone RBI in the game.

The Yellowjackets have six games remaining in their lengthy road trip.  They play a doubleheader against Texas A&M – International Tuesday February 20 before playing four Heartland Conference games against St. Mary’s University February 21 and 22.
