Kocab Leads Jackets at Shootout (10/1/05)

BOULDER, CO – Susan Kocab placed in the top 40 at Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Shootout hosted by defending Division I national champion University of Colorado.  Kocab finished the 5.8K race in 24:35, good for 38th place.

The race featured the top-ranked men’s and women’s teams from Division I (Colorado) and Division II (Adams State).  Colorado’s Christine Bolf took top individual honors in the women’s race, winning in 20:53.  Adams State won the non-Division I women’s race behind Emily Mortensen’s third place finish in 21:16.  The men’s individual winner was Colorado’s Bret Schoolmeester, who covered the 8K course in 24:55.  Adams State also won the men’s team race.

Kocab (Fr., Billings, MT) bounced back from an illness that slowed her two weeks ago at the MSU-Bozeman invitational for a strong showing Saturday.  She was followed by Cierra Dornfeld (Fr., Woodbury, MN) in 68th place in a time of 26:01.  Rounding out the Lady Jackets’ scoring runners were Tiffany Piplica (Jr., Riverton, WY) in 79th place (27:01), Tracie Overberg (Sr., Dodson, MT) in 81st place (27:05), and Kym Island (Fr., Columbia Falls, MT) in 88th place (29:00).  Also running for the Yellowjackets were Kisa Kron (So., Livingston, MT) in 89th place (29:14), Kristy Burns (Jr., Livingston, MT) in 92nd place (29:40), Erin Gannon (Fr., Yankton, SD) in 96th place (31:01), and Colleen Dalimata (So., Columbia Falls, MT) in 97th place (31:09).

The Yellowjacket men were paced by Sam Hartpence (Jr., Custer, SD) who placed 61st.  He finished the 8K race in 29:25.  Joining Hartpence in the Jackets’ scoring lineup were Matt Roseberry (So., Chinook, MT) in 94th place (30:53), Jared Rensvold (So., Wolf Point, MT) in 108th place (32:06), Joe Kragt (Jr., Worden, MT) in 112th place (32:46), and Andy Zoeller (So., Billings, MT) in 115th place (33:06).

The Yellowjackets next run at the Idaho State Invitational on October 8 in Pocatello.
