Cazemier Named to All-Region Volleyball Team (11/18/05)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings sophomore Alicia Cazemier was named to the 2005 Daktronics Division II All-Southwest Region Volleyball second team on Friday.  Cazemier, a middle blocker from Vauxhall, Alberta, Canada, was one of just two players from the Heartland Conference to earn all region honors.  Western New Mexico’s Stephanie Higgins was named to the all-region first team.

Cazemier, an All-Heartland Conference first-team selection, finished the season ranked second in the league for blocks, hitting percentage, and points and was third for kills. Her hitting percentage of .376 ranks fourteenth in the NCAA Division II.  Cazemier was twice named the Heartland Conference hitter of the week and planted her name numerous times in the MSU Billings school record books.

In Cazemier’s two seasons at MSU Billings, the Yellowjackets have posted their only two winning seasons in the program’s history.  Last year the Jackets were 14-11 overall, posting their first winning season ever.  In 2005 MSU Billings set a school record with a 20-8 overall record for a .714 winning percentage.  The Yellowjackets, who advanced to the Heartland Conference championship match, will return all eight players from this year’s squad next season.

Sports information directors from within the region select the Daktronics all-region teams.  First-team members move onto the national ballot and can earn All-American honors.  This is the fifth year Daktronics has sponsored the Division II volleyball All-American and All-Region team.
Daktronics, with headquarters in Brookings, S.D., is an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
