Jacket Softball Falls to Seattle to Close Tourney (3/5/06)
Box Score

RICHLAND, WA – A fifth inning rally by 22nd-ranked Seattle University gave the Redhawks a 7-4 win over Montana State-Billings on Sunday to close out the Central Washington Invitational.  Seattle improved to 10-8 overall, dropping the Yellowjackets to 5-14.

MSU Billings scored a run in the top of the first on a Jenna Haacke (So., Billings, MT) home run, her fourth homer of the season.  The Yellowjackets gave up two runs in the bottom of the third on a Jane Purdy home run.  The Jackets retook the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth.

Megan Moeller (Jr., Ontario, OR) led off the Jackets’ fifth inning with her first home run of the season.  Five batters later Crystal Bentley (Fr., Bothell, WA) singled to drive in Stephanie Rinehart (Fr., Gig Harbor, WA) and Aysha Maddox (Jr., Richland, WA).

The Yellowjackets’ 4-2 lead evaporated in the bottom half of the fifth inning when the Redhawks scored five runs on two hits and a Yellowjacket error.  A Heather Hansen two-RBI double capped the Seattle rally.

Yellowjacket starter Lisa Moore (Fr., Bakersfield, CA) gave up four hits and seven runs in five innings.  Only four of the Redhawks’ runs were earned as the Jackets committed two errors.  Terina Stacks (Fr., Washougal, WA) pitched the final inning for the Jackets, recording three-straight outs.  The Redhawks’ Erin Kemper scattered seven hits and two earned runs over seven innings for the win.

Bentley was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Jackets.  The Redhawks’ Purdy went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI.

The Yellowjackets return to Billings for their home opener on March 11 against Dickinson State.  First pitch at Cenex Stadium is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
