MSUB Soccer Adds Five Montanans (5/15/06)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings men’s soccer coach Dan McNally announced the signing of five Montana players this week.  Joining the Yellowjackets will be Justin Hoskins of Billings, Jarred Weisen of Great Falls, Jeremy DeHerrera and Erik Andrews of Kalispell, and Sander Tollefson of Missoula.

Hoskins is transferring from Westminster College where he played last year as a true freshman.  He started all 19 games, scoring three goals and five assists.  He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 2005 as a three-time letterman for the Broncs.  Hoskins was an all-state selection as a junior and as a senior.  He helped lead Senior HS to the 2004 state championship.  Three times Hoskins was named the Broncs’ defensive MVP, and he was chosen to play in the Shodair Classic following his senior year.

“Justin is a very talented player,” said McNally.  “He combines technical ability with excellent athleticism.  He is a natural leader.  I believe Justin will have an immediate positive impact on the program.”

Weisen will graduate this month from C.M. Russell High School where he was a two-year letterman for the Rustlers.  As a senior he scored 11 goals with four assists to earn all-conference and all-state honors.  He was also the Rustlers’ offensive MVP.  Weisen helped C.M.R. to the 2005 Eastern AA title and a runner-up finish at the state tournament.

“Jarred is a very technical player with excellent speed,” said McNally.  “He will be a big asset to the program over the next four years.”

DeHerrera will graduate from Flathead High School in June.  He was a three-year letterman for the Braves, earning first team all-conference honors as a junior and senior.  In three seasons DeHerrera scored 30 goals with 34 assists and helped the Braves to a first, a second, and a third place finish at the state tournament.

“Jeremy is a very powerful midfield player,” McNally said.  “He has the potential to be a very good player at this level.”

Andrews will also graduate in June from Flathead HS.  He lettered twice in soccer and three times in basketball.  He was the Braves’ goalkeeper during two top three finishes at the state tournament, including the 2005 AA state title.  He earned all-conference honors as a senior, allowing just six goals all season.

“Erik is a natural athlete with great potential,” said McNally.  “He is a solid shot stopper and is very quick off his line.”

Tollefson is a goalkeeper who was a four-year starter at Hellgate High School, where he will graduate in June.  He earned all-conference honors as a sophomore and junior and was named to the all-state team as a senior.  His 395 career saves are a school record as are his 135 saves last season.  Tollefson posted four shutouts as a senior, leading the Knights to a state tournament appearance.

“Sander is solid in every goalkeeping department,” McNally said.  “He is very consistent.”
