Munoz Tabbed Heartland Conference POTW (1/11/06)

BILLINGS, MT – Yellowjacket senior guard Cameron Munoz was named Heartland Conference player of the week for the week of January 2-8.  This week’s award brings the Jackets’ Heartland Conference player of the week total to four and is Munoz’s (Chino, CA) second.

Munoz averaged 25.7 points and 6.7 three-pointers in three Yellowjackets wins against Heartland Conference teams last week.  In Wednesday’s 122-97 win over Western New Mexico, Munoz netted 29 points and seven three-pointers.  On Friday Munoz scored 20 points and knocked down five from behind the arc in an 88-77 win over Oklahoma Panhandle.  After Munoz’s twelfth made point Friday night he became just the fifth player in the school’s 79 years to score over 1,500 career points.  Munoz rounded out the week with 28 points and eight three-pointers in Saturday’s 90-89 win against the Aggies.  For the three games, Munoz went 25-of-60 from the field (41.7%), 20-of-42 from three-point range (47.6%), and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Munoz currently ranks first in the Heartland Conference for scoring (26.8), thirteenth for field goal percentage (47.8), eleventh for assists (2.0), second from free throw percentage (80.0), second for three-point percentage (48.4), and first for three-pointers per game (6.2).  Munoz led the nation in scoring and three-pointers made and tenth for three-point percentage in last weeks NCAA national rankings.

The Yellowjackets travel to San Antonio, Texas this week to play Heartland Conference opponents Incarnate Word and St. Mary’s (TX).  The Jackets’ next home game is scheduled for January 28 against St. Edward’s.  Tip off is 8 p.m.
