Box Score 1
Box Score 2

SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word stretched its winning streak to eight games on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader from the Montana State-Billings baseball team, 9-1 and 9-3.  The Cardinals improved to 12-4 on the season and 6-0 in the Heartland Conference.  The Yellowjackets remained winless at 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the Heartland Conference.

The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game one when Nick Hoskyn (Jr. Oelwein, IA) drove in leadoff hitter Mike Wardell (So., Billings, MT).  Hoskyn was 2-for-3 in the game.  Incarnate Word answered with two runs in the bottom of the third and added three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth.  Dustin Wells went 3-for-3 with four RBI for the Cardinals.  Kyle McBride (Jr., Billings, MT) took the loss for the Jackets to fall to 0-3.  Jeff Jamnik went the distance for the Cards, improving to 4-1.

The Cardinals took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the second game and never looked back.  Chris Martin (Jr., Billings, MT) took the loss, dropping to 0-3.  Jeff Langston earned his first victory of the year, scattering three hits over 5 1/3 innings.  The Yellowjackets scored runs in the second, third, and sixth innings.  Wardell, Josh Wiley (Jr., Belgrade, MT) and Doug Lonfellow (Jr., Lewistown, MT) each crossed the plate for the Jackets.  Hoskyn, Matt Kakalecik (Fr., Great Falls, MT), and Longfellow had MSUB's only three hits of the game.  Blake Weston and Matt Seale each drove in three RBI for the Cardinals.

MSU Billings is halfway through its spring break trip to Texas.  The Yellowjackets will play two games at Incarnate Word on Wednesday before wrapping up the trip on Sunday and Monday in Austin with doubleheaders against St. Edward’s University.

Following the four games at St. Ed’s, the Yellowjackets return home to open the home schedule on March 17 against Northwest Nazarene University.  The Jackets opened the season with four losses to the Crusaders in Nampa, ID, last month.  First pitch for the Friday doubleheader is scheduled for noon at Cobb Field.  The Jackets and Crusaders will play two more games on Saturday, March 18 beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The day prior to the Jackets’ home opener, March 16, the team will hold a Media Day/Fan Day at Buffalo Wild Wings on 24th Street West.  The no-host event will run from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  There will be prizes as well as numerous Yellowjacket Baseball items for sale.
