Lady Jackets Drop Third Straight in Washington (Sept. 27, 2004)
Box Score

BELLINGHAM, WA – For the second year in a row, the Lady Yellowjacket soccer team went to Washington unbeaten and left with a three-game losing streak.  MSU Billings fell at Western Washington, 2-0, on Monday to complete the three-game swing in which they were outscored 7-0.  Monday’s loss dropped the Yellowjackets to 6-3-1 overall while Western Washington improved to 6-4-0.

The Vikings broke a scoreless tie in the 55th minute when Chrissy Wohl scored on a penalty kick.  The penalty kick was awarded when Yellowjacket goalkeeper Megan Plank (So., Phoenix, AZ) was given a yellow card for committing a foul in the box.  Alyssa Wolfer (So., F, Longmont, CO) replaced Plank for the PK and was charged with the goal.

Western Washington scored an insurance goal a little less than 10 minutes later when Chela Gray beat Plank from five yards out after the Vikings were able to knock a cross into the box.  The Vikings out shot the Yellowjackets 17-5 in the game, including an 8-1 advantage for shots on goal.  Plank made eight saves in 90 minutes.

Kelsey Vinnedge (So., MF, Great Falls, MT) recorded the Jackets’ only shot on goal.  Five different players managed one shot apiece for MSU Billings.

“We’re going to have to work very hard and stay together as a team to bounce back this weekend,” said Yellowjacket head coach Don Trentham.  “We’re still searching for someone to step up and take Stephanie Clark’s place (Clark was lost for the season with an injury in Wednesday’s game at Seattle Pacific).  We have to redefine ourselves as a team because she played such a big role.  Anytime you play on the road, you learn something.  We’ll have to learn from this and find a way to bounce back.”

The Yellowjackets will return to action on Saturday and Sunday when they host the second annual Futbol Frenzy Weekend.  There will be men/women double-headers both days.  The Lady Jackets will face Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday and Northern State on Sunday.  Both games kick off at 12 noon.
