Lady Jackets Drop First Road Game at Seattle (Nov. 30, 2004)
Box Score

BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings women’s basketball team lost for the first time this season on Tuesday, dropping its first road game of the year at Seattle, 61-55.  The Lady Jackets shot just 35.3 percent from the field and had their lowest point total in four games.  MSU Billings dropped to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the West Region.  Seattle, which won the battle of the boards 38-32, improved to 3-2.

“We struggled in the first half,” said Yellowjacket head coach Kevin Woodin.  “Seattle played a lot more physical and really dominated on the rebounds, especially in the first half.  We got down 11 early in the second half.  We did a nice job of battling back, but they were able to hold us off at the end.  In order for us to compete with them tomorrow, we have to do something about their advantage on the boards.  Hopefully we will be able to respond tomorrow and get a win.”

The Yellowjackets trailed by as many as 11 early in the second half, but rallied to take the lead in the final four minutes.  Back-to-back baskets by Jenny Langford (Jr., Reedpoint, MT) inside the eight minute mark completed the Jackets’ second half comeback, giving MSUB a three point lead.

Tanya Petersen (Jr., Billings, MT) snapped a three minute scoreless spell by both teams with a basket with 4:09 remaining, putting the Yellowjackets up 52-49.  Seattle answered with a 12-3 run over the final 3:45 to pull out the Redhawks’ third straight win at home.

Three Yellowjackets scored in double figures, led by Robyn Milne’s (Sr., Richey, MT) 12 points.  She was 4-of-9 from the field and also had five rebounds.  Michelle Lieber (So., Gillette, WY) posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.  Petersen also added 10 points.

Langford finished with five points and four assists.  Guards Lisa Jellum (Jr., Gillette, WY) and Shannon Harvey (So., Billings, MT) each scored eight points with two 3-pointers apiece.

Seattle was led by 13 points by Kristen Connolly off the bench.  She was 3-of-6 from 3-point range.  Amanda Kerr added 10 points.  Thresia Busch had nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Yellowjackets and Redhawks will meet again Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. PST.
