Men’s Golf in Tight Race for Collegiate Cup (Apr. 4, 2005)
BILLINGS, MT – The spring dual
between Rocky Mountain College and MSU Billings got
underway Monday at The Briarwood Golf Club. Rocky is
currently leading the men’s competition 13 to 9 with the
Lady Bears over the Lady Jackets 15-1. The Billings
Collegiate Cup winner will be determined Tuesday after
the singles matches conclude. The first tee time is set
for 1:00 p.m.
In Monday’s match-ups, the Jacket
men nearly took the lead when they found the water on
the 18th hole. This gave Rocky the one up
after going 18-holes in the first foursome. The second
foursome of Zach Abels (Fr., Twin Falls, ID) and Chris
Haas (Jr., Bozeman, MT) won their match-up with four and
three. The third foursome found Rocky with the lead
winning their match-up also with four and three.
The ladies foursome has Rocky
winning both match-ups. The first foursome was won by
Carlie Breen and Ashley Griffith with six and five. The
second match-up had Karin Boo and Rachel Warren winning
with four and three.
In the women’s dual, eleven points
are needed to clinch the win. The Rocky women’s team
accomplished this in the fall rounds of play winning
11-1 over the Jackets. The Yellowjacket men’s team is
close behind Rocky trailing 13-9. The winner of the cup
will come down to the singles matches where the
Yellowjacket men will need to win six of seven match-ups
to earn the title.
