Jackets’ Larson Qualifies for Super Regional (Apr. 23, 2005)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings golfer Nicholas Larson has become the first Yellowjacket golfer in the program’s three year history to qualify for the NCAA Super Regional.  Larson, a freshman from Riverton, Wyo., was one of five individuals from non-qualifying teams in the West Region to receive an invitation to the tournament.

The Northwest/West Super Regional will be held May 2-4 at the Dakota Dunes Country Club in Dakota Dunes, SD.  The University of South Dakota is hosting the tournament.  The top two teams at the Super Regional plus one individual not on those teams will advance to the National Championships.

Larson currently sits in tenth place at the Pacific West Conference Championships, which conclude Saturday afternoon in Hilo, HI.  Qualifying for the Super Regional is based on scoring averages of events prior to the conference championship.

Larson had a 76.1 scoring average during the fall season and a 74.0 average in the spring.  His season scoring average for 18 rounds this year is 75.06.  Larson’s breakthrough tournament came two weeks ago when he finished in a tie for ninth place at the Buzzini/Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock, Calif.  He carded rounds of 73 and 74 during the first two days of the PacWest Championships, although those scores are not factored into the Super Regional qualifying scores.
