ARCATA, CA – Tanya Petersen had her way with Humboldt State for the second game in a row, scoring 17 points Friday afternoon to lead the Lady Yellowjackets to a 68-58 victory over the Lumberjacks.  MSU Billings won for the fourth time in its last five games, including an 80-64 win over Humboldt State on Tuesday at the UC-San Diego Invitational.  Petersen notched a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds in that game.

The Yellowjackets never trailed in the game, opening the first half with a 7-3 run.  Jenny Auer’s 3-pointer 4:22 into the game gave MSU Billings a 7-3 lead.  Auer finished with 11 points and two 3-pointers while handing out a team-high four assists.

The Lumberjacks were able to tie the game twice early in the first half, scoring at the 14:52 mark to make the score 7-7, and at 13:52 to tie the game at 9-9.  The Yellowjackets outscored Humboldt 13-5 over the next seven minutes to build an eight point lead.  Auer and Robyn Milne each scored in the final minute of the half to give the Jackets a 31-21 lead at the break.

Humboldt was able to cut the lead to six on five different occasions in the second half, but couldn’t get any closer.  A Milne layup followed by four straight points from Alisa Lordemann gave the Yellowjackets their largest lead of the game, 66-52, with 2:16 remaining in the game.  Milne finished with her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 16 points to go with a game-high ten rebounds.  For the season she is averaging a double-double of 13.2 points and 12.3 rebounds a game.  Lordemann scored nine points in the game.

The Yellowjackets improved to 7-6 with the win.  Humboldt lost for the seventh-straight time, falling to 3-8.  Nicole Lynch led the Lumberjacks with a game-high 20 points.  Peni Vaefaga added 15 points and nine rebounds.  Six of her points came on 3-pointers in the final 1:21 of the game.

MSU Billings will next play at Western New Mexico on January 9 and 10.  The two games against the Mustangs in Silver City will end a ten-game road stretch for the Lady Jackets.  They enter the WNMU series with a 6-4 record against West Region teams.  The Yellowjackets return to Alterowitz on January 16 and 17 when they host Green Mountain College.
