Hot Bats Give Jackets Doubleheader Sweep of Crusaders (Mar. 8, 2004)
Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

NAMPA, ID – Montana State-Billings pounded out 17 hits and scored 21 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Northwest Nazarene on Monday.  The Yellowjackets won the first game 13-0 and the second 8-2 to improve to 8-17.  The Crusaders fell to 1-11.  MSU Billings plays at Mesa State on Wednesday and at Western New Mexico on Friday and Saturday in two PacWest doubleheaders.

Joey Ehnes pitched five shutout innings of the first game for her fifth win of the season.  She struck out 13 of the 18 batters she faced and allowed just two hits.  Stephanie Cochrun pitched the final inning, retiring the side in order.

The Jackets didn’t get on the scoreboard until the top of the third inning when Anna Henderson’s single to centerfield drove in Ehnes after Ehnes had hit one of her two doubles of the game.  MSU Billings blew the game open with six runs in the fourth and six more in the sixth, winning by the eight-run rule after six innings.

Ehnes was 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.  Henderson drove in two RBI and was 2-for-4 at the plate.  Cochrun and Cami Rainey each drove in a pair and scored twice.  Cochrun was 3-for-4, and Rainey went 2-for-3.

Cochrun went the distance in the second game for her first victory of the season.  She allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out seven in seven innings.  The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a pair of singles and a sac bunt.  The Yellowjackets answered with three runs in the third and three more in the fifth to give Cochrun all the breathing room she needed.

Layne Pavey and Christy Wankel each drove in two RBI.  Pavey was 2-for-4 and also scored a run.  Wankel was 1-for-4 with a triple.  Cochrun helped her own cause, going 1-for-3 and scoring two runs.  Sara Hanley was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.  She also stole two bases.
