MSU Billings Golf Teams Wrap Up Play in Nebraska (Apr. 20, 2004)

KEARNEY, NE – The Montana State-Billings men’s and women’s golf teams finished their final rounds at the Nebraska-Kearney Spring Invitational on Tuesday.  The men’s team placed thirteenth out of 17 teams in Lincoln, while the women’s team finished third in a three team field in Kearney.

The Yellowjacket men had one of their best rounds of the year, but still dropped two places from Monday’s team standings.  North Dakota and Fort Hays shot 299 and 301 respectively on Tuesday to leapfrog the Yellowjackets, who carded a 306.  St. Cloud State held off a charge from North Dakota State to win the team title by one stroke.

The Yellowjackets’ Chris Haas and Eric Staab finished tied for 23^rd place with a 16-over 229.  Haas was consistent all week, shooting 76, 77, 76.  Staab carded 74, 82, 73 on the 6,762-yard par-71 Firethorne Country Club.  Fort Lewis College’s Bobby Foster won a playoff to take the tournament individual title, beating Nebraska-Kearney’s Greg Davis.  Each finished three rounds at 2-over 213.

The Lady Yellowjackets played their two round tournament in Kearney at the Meadowlark Hills Golf Club.  Three of the five Yellowjacket golfers scored higher in Tuesday’s final round as the team slipped further behind winner Nebraska-Kearney and runner-up Chadron State.

MSUB’s Elizabeth Marshall finished eleventh with a two round total of 189.  Her second round 97 dropped her from ninth.  Dusty Lindeen cut 13 strokes off her first round score to jump from seventeenth to twelfth.  Nebraska-Kearney’s Sara Enninga and Mandi Schlaepfer tied for individual honors at 23-over 165.

The tournament was the last of the season for the Lady Yellowjackets.  The Yellowjacket men’s team will conclude its season next Monday at the Northern Colorado Invitational.  That tournament, which was scheduled for April 26 and 27, has been rearranged to be a two round tournament with both rounds played on Monday, April 26
